Empowered exploration of your inner world through therapeutic astrology and dreamwork.

computerised dreams

Hmm… not sure what I think about this Japanese dream technology. My first thoughts are that it would detract from the magical worlds that we create in our psyches. Sure, maybe one day it will recreate visual dream images but what about the accompanying emotions and sensations?

Still, the curiousity factor is strong… What do you think?

  1. Yep, I was a bit unsettled about this – I mean, how ominous is this sentence: “the technology could eventually be used to figure out dreams and other secrets inside people’s minds”.

I started thinking about that movie Sunshine of the Spotless Mind where not only have they worked out how to record (memories, in this case), they can also erase them – so you (or they!) can wipe out events, people etc from your mind.

I wonder also if maybe we’re not even strong enough, really, to ‘face up’ to all the stuff in our dreams? You’d know more about this than me, Aello, but I think of dreaming as a way to process stuff that you don’t have the time/energy/ability to think about consciously. So, if you do remember stuff, and are ready to think about/work through it, then that’s all good. But if you can’t, maybe there’s a reason? The thought of watching it all on a screen gives me a superstitious creeping scary sort of feeling in my bonemarrow.

And you are right, the visual is less than half the story, really. So much would be missed.

All that said though, I would find it hard to resist the temptation to have a look…

  2. Hi Ocypete

The characters in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind ended up going crazy, didn’t they? I can’t quite remember…

And if brainwaves can be turned into images, surely it’s not such a stretch to change images into brainwaves ie implant thoughts in our minds. Would we be able to differentiate between our own thoughts and those that were artificially introduced?

    Happy dreaming
